Finding the Right Words for What This Show Is

The positioning journey that took way too long and one good afternoon.

For most of Season 1, I couldn't answer a simple question.

"What's your podcast about?"

I'd say travel. I'd say cities. I'd say storytelling. I'd watch people nod politely and move on. None of it was wrong exactly, but none of it was right either. It was like describing a song by listing its instruments.

The problem wasn't the show. The show knew what it was. The problem was I didn't have language for it yet.

I tried a lot of taglines. "Cities Speak. We Translate." was on the website for months. It sounded smart. It didn't say anything. "Explore, Listen, Discover"...that's a tourism board, not a podcast.

What I kept coming back to was the feeling the show was actually trying to create. Not wanderlust…not even inspiration. Something more like... recognition. That moment when a city puts you in a situation you didn't choose and you find out something about yourself you didn't know. Identity-adjacent, with a nod to the idea that our identity is always evolving.

Cities don't just host you. They test you.

Once I had that thought sorted, everything else followed. The show isn't about what cities look like or feel like or taste like. It's about what they demand from you. And whether you adapt, resist, grow, or fold.

The tagline I landed on: Every city tests you. EveryCity Whispers is a narrative podcast about what places demand from us — and who we become when we can't look away.

It took me a year and a half to write two sentences. Feels about right.
